Our Graduates’ Journeys

+ Rémi Blondel, PhD student in philosophy (M2 LOGOS 2023-2024)

“I am currently pursuing my PhD at the Henri Poincaré Archives (University of Lorraine), where I work on questions combining history and philosophy of mathematics. I am particularly interested in the structuring of the mathematical community and mathematical language, exploring how the social organization of mathematicians influenced the development of mathematics in France, under the Third Republic and during the Vichy regime.

I owe this pluridisciplinary research orientation largely to the Logos master’s program. Its cross-disciplinary dimension allowed me to strengthen my knowledge in mathematics, linguistics, and philosophy, three essential fields for my current research.

The courses in this master’s program are of excellent quality, and sharing classes with students from other master’s programs opens the door to varied and always enriching exchanges.”

+ Baptiste Loreau-Unger, PhD student in cognitive science (M2 LOGOS)

“I joined the second-year of the Logos master after studying math and linguistics. I already knew that I wanted to become a researcher in cognitive science, to study human thought and reasoning at a symbolic level. After that, I was lucky to be admitted in the 5-year PhD program in cognitive science at École normale supérieure (Paris), which I am currently following.

Even knowing where I was headed, the Logos master was a great opportunity to broaden my horizons. Thanks to the coursework, I familiarized myself with and deepened my knowledge in various fields: epistemology, philosophy of language, logic, natural-language and programming-language semantics. In research, the master encourages original, interdisciplinary ideas: the heads of the program made it very clear through semi-regular presentations on their own work. I was even able to design my own internship/thesis topic, which aimed at formalizing existing work in linguistics thanks to general topology.

The master makes for a very stimulating environment, surrounded by fellow students and researchers with diverse backgrounds and interests. You can easily follow seminars on campus or at Collège de France on your free time, and have great chats with curious, thoughtful peers from Logos and other masters.”
